Valve is preparing to launch the Steam Frame, and the company has now confirmed pricing, accessories, and details of the reservation system for its new standalone and streaming-focused VR headset.
The Steam Frame will be available in two storage configurations, both bundled with VR controllers:
- Steam Frame 256 GB: $1,059 USD / $1,529 CAD / €1,049 / £889 / $1,609 AUD / 4,539 PLN
- Steam Frame 1 TB: $1,299 USD / $1,859 CAD / €1,279 / £1,089 / $1,969 AUD / 5,549 PLN
Alongside the headset, Valve is also offering several optional accessories at launch.
Optional Accessories
The Ergonomic Accessories Kit is priced at $49 USD / $69 CAD / €59 / £49 / $89 AUD / 229 PLN. It includes two hand straps similar to those used with the Valve Index, an over-the-head strap, and an extended light blocker.
Valve is also selling a separate power adapter for $29 USD / $49 CAD / €39 / £29 / $49 AUD.
A charger is not included with the Steam Frame itself. However, buyers do not necessarily need Valve’s official adapter, as any compatible 45 W USB Type-C charger should be sufficient.
Reservations Are Open Until September 17
Customers interested in buying the Steam Frame can register for a reservation through the official product page until September 17 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
Importantly, this is not a traditional first-come, first-served launch.
Once the initial signup period closes, Valve will conduct a one-time randomization to determine the reservation order. Customers will then be divided between those who immediately receive a place in the reservation queue and those who are placed on the waitlist.
Valve says customers who register before the deadline will have the same opportunity to be included in the initial randomization, regardless of when they signed up during the registration window.
Later on September 17, participants are expected to receive an email confirming whether they have secured a reservation or have been placed on the waitlist.
Anyone joining after 10:00 a.m. PT on September 17 will automatically be added to the end of the waitlist.
First Purchase Emails Arrive September 18
Valve expects to begin sending the first purchase invitations on September 18. Additional emails will follow as more Steam Frame units become available for shipment.
Being placed on the waitlist means demand has exceeded the number of devices currently available for reservation. Valve says customers will be contacted if and when their position moves into the active reservation queue.
The system closely resembles the reservation process previously used for the Steam Machine.
According to Valve, that approach helped reduce the impact of resellers while making the purchasing process more manageable.
“We found the reservation system to be helpful in limiting resellers and improving the purchase experience,” Valve said.
Steam Machine orders were reportedly being processed on a regular basis, and Valve previously indicated that it expected to work through that reservation queue by the end of 2026. In some markets, the company had already begun offering units to customers who were originally placed on the waitlist.
Signing Up Early Could Be Your Best Shot
The Steam Frame presents Valve with a somewhat different supply challenge. The headset combines a wide range of hardware components and uses significant amounts of LPDDR5X memory, which could potentially complicate production and availability.
For buyers, however, the most important detail is straightforward: registering before September 17 gives you access to the initial randomized reservation pool.
It does not guarantee that you will receive a Steam Frame immediately, but it gives you a better opportunity than joining the waitlist after the lottery has already taken place.
With the first purchase invitations scheduled to begin going out on September 18, anyone hoping to receive a Steam Frame before the end of the year will want to enter the reservation system before the deadline.
